Dementia Specialty
While all adult day care and adult day health care center care for those living with some type of dementia, not all day centers off dementia specialty services including: additional staff training; caregiver support and education; and an exercise program.
Additional staff training would include techniques successful to managing challenging dementia-related behaviors such as combativeness, inappropriate behavior, wandering and sun-downing. Specially trained staff know how to support and maintain functional self-care abilities such as feeding, dressing and toileting and how to guide caregivers living through the process of the disease.
Everyone should exercise and those living with dementia are not different. Day centers with a dementia specialty can offer an individually tailored exercise program designed to maintain strength and functional abilities.
