Adult Day Care and Adult Day Health Care
Adult day Care, sometimes referred to as a “social model,” offers many of the same services offered at adult day health. As a matter of fact, all adult day health centers meet all of the requirements of adult day care, known as Core Services:
- Assistance with activities of daily living
- Social services on a consultation basis
- General health education that an unlicensed person can provide
- A nutritional meal and snacks every four hours
- Supervision and/or protection if needed for client safety
- Assistance with arranging transportation to and from the program
- First aid and provisions for obtaining or providing care in an emergency
Adult Day Health Care, also known as a “medical model” off care, is the provision of Core Services PLUS skilled nursing and/or skilled rehabilitation services.
Adult Day Health offers:
- All core services
- Skilled nursing services other than routine health monitoring with nurse consultation
- At least one of the following skilled therapy services: physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech-language pathology
- Psychological or counseling services, including assessing for psycho-social therapy need, dementia, abuse or neglect, and alcohol or drug abuse
